Test
The US BioTek Oral Microbiome Profile is an oral swab and saliva-based test that evaluates oral microbial composition using quantitative PCR and MALDI-TOF culture technology, including organisms associated with periodontal health, dental caries, fungal overgrowth, and oral microbial balance.
Clinical Utility
The US BioTek Oral Microbiome Profile is an oral swab and saliva-based test that uses quantitative PCR and MALDI-TOF culture technology to evaluate oral microorganisms associated with oral microbial balance, periodontal disease risk, dental caries, fungal overgrowth, and opportunistic bacterial colonization. The test may provide adjunctive information in the assessment of oral health status, oral microbial patterns, and potential oral dysbiosis when interpreted alongside dental history, symptoms, oral examination, hygiene practices, and standard clinical evaluation.

Collection & Handling
Collection Instructions
The Oral Microbiome Profile uses a buccal swab specimen collected at home using the kit provided by the laboratory. Patients should avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes before collection and avoid antimicrobial mouthwash and oral sex for 24 hours prior to collection. Antibiotics and antifungals should be completed at least 14 days before collection, while probiotics, anti-inflammatories, botanical antimicrobials, and botanical antifungals should be avoided for 7 days prior when possible and under practitioner guidance. During collection, the swab is rotated firmly along the inside of each cheek for approximately 30 seconds per side, then placed into the provided transport tube containing preservative solution. The tube is sealed, labeled with patient information, placed into the provided biohazard bag, and shipped to the laboratory according to kit instructions.
