Understanding Neurotransmitters, Stress & Inflammation

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is a severe, cyclical disorder affecting females of reproductive age that is often misunderstood, underdiagnosed, and challenging to treat. Although it is well understood that cycling sex hormones play a role, emerging evidence suggests that PMDD is not simply a disorder of sex hormone levels, but rather a condition of heightened sensitivity to normal hormonal fluctuations.

This webinar will explore several proposed mechanisms of PMDD pathophysiology, examining the roles of fluctuating ovarian hormones, neuroactive steroid and neurotransmitter dynamics, as well as the role of stress and inflammation in this disorder.

Register to learn more about:

  • The diagnostic criteria and clinical presentation of patients with PMDD
  • Proposed etiologies of PMDD, including sensitivity to normal hormonal fluctuations as well as the interplay between sex hormones, neuroactive steroids, and neurotransmitters
  • Other contributing drivers to the disorder, such as HPA axis dysregulation and inflammation
  • Interpreting common DUTCH Test patterns associated with PMDD
  • Conventional, hormonal, and integrative treatment approaches as well as how to develop personalized treatment plans for patients with PMDD using a functional medicine framework

This session is designed to equip clinicians with a deeper understanding of PMDD and provide them with practical tools to better support patients experiencing this debilitating disorder.
