NAD Profile, Blood Spot

Test

The US BioTek NAD Profile is a dried blood spot test that evaluates NAD and related metabolites associated with cellular energy metabolism, redox balance, and metabolic function.

Clinical Utility

The US BioTek NAD Profile is a dried blood spot test that measures nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and related metabolites involved in cellular energy production, redox balance, and metabolic processes. The test may provide adjunctive information related to cellular metabolism, oxidative stress, nutrient utilization, and metabolic function when interpreted alongside clinical history, symptoms, medication use, and standard clinical evaluation. Results are intended to support clinical assessment and are not intended to serve as a standalone diagnostic tool.

Method

Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS)

Collection & Handling

Collection Instructions

The NAD Profile uses a self-collected dried blood spot specimen obtained at home using the collection kit provided by the laboratory. Patients should hydrate prior to collection and avoid testing if taking blood thinners or if they have a blood clotting disorder. Collection involves cleansing the fingertip with the provided alcohol swab, using a lancet to obtain capillary blood, and applying blood drops directly onto the designated collection card circles without smearing. The sample card must air dry for at least three hours away from moisture and sunlight before being sealed in the provided biohazard bag and mailed to the laboratory according to kit instructions.
